Near Dark is my favourite vampire film, hands down. Some people I’ve shown it to think it’s a bit slow, but I really enjoy the grimy atmosphere, the Tangerine Dream score, and the amazing cast from Aliens (1986) and the Terminator series.

Near Dark is as close to the perfect vampire flick that exists. The atmosphere is perfect and the performances are on point. I also love the stories about its production, like how Lance and Bill went all method for their roles and would drive around together at night and pick up hitchhikers to absolutely fucking terrify.

Jun 6, 2021 · Near Dark (1987) Opinions. So I just watched Near Dark for the 1st time. From everything I read about, it was a lost gem of the vampire genre. I can see why it didn't do so good especially with Lost Boys coming out around that time and just overall not as gripping. I think Lost Boys is far superior but Near Dark has it moments.

Director Kathryn Bigelow made sure James Cameron didn't mind, and even put "Aliens" on a movie marquee in one scene. A couple years later, she and Cameron were married.

Despite being in my opinion the Top 80s vampire film; Filmed where I used to live in Coolidge AZ; Near Dark is obscure because it has never had a wide distribution or release. The movie should have been re-released hard when Hurt Locker came out. Strange Days alao hard to find.

Mar 20, 2021 · My opinion is that they should re-release it on blu-ray so I can get it at a reasonable price. Its depiction of vampires as scuzzy nomadic predators feeding on the underbelly of society was especially unique for the 80s. Remember it came out around the same time as "The Lost Boys." Big fan of the bar scene.
