This is essentially the same thing. Connectors for the BI semantic layers for tools like OBIEE and Business Objects would prevent a lot of recreation of logical models / metalayers and would probably give more IT managers less pause when it comes to brining in Tableau along side its existing enterprise BI tools. Like you I used to work with SAP BusinessObjects and although that came with it's own challenges, the Universe (semantic layer) was (for me) one of it's best features. I sometimes wonder if Tableau really "gets" corporate reporting as this behaviour is something you would want to avoid at all costs.
