Apr 9, 2022 · I've always thought that rainbow is for autism specifically and gold is for neurodivergence as a whole. But a lot of others think it's the other way around; gold for autism and rainbow for neurodivergence. There's even infographics showing this too. I wanted to settle the debate by finding who exactly created the rainbow infinity and when.

I assumed the rainbow aspect was to demonstrate the spectrum of autism and the many manifestations it can take, and the infinity symbol to combat the puzzle piece, showing that autism is a lifelong diagnosis and can't/shouldn't be 'cured', and also that autistic people are whole and complete. It's not greatly aesthetically pleasing, but it is quite symbolic.

Dec 13, 2022 · The rainbow infinity symbol (specifically the second one here) was originally created with autistic people in mind; however, rainbow infinity symbols were eventually adopted by the neurodivergent community as a whole. The gold infinity symbol and the red infinity symbol are still exclusive to autistic people.
