The London Array is a 175-turbine 630 MW Round 2 offshore wind farm located 20 kilometres (12 mi) off the Kent coast in the outer Thames Estuary in the United Kingdom. It was the largest offshore wind farm in the world until Walney Extension reached full production in September 2018.

At the time of its inauguration in 2013, London Array was the largest offshore wind farm in the world. Its conception and construction attracted international attention, and paved the way for the current generation of even larger wind farms being built around Britain’s coastline.

London Array Offshore Wind Farm is located more than 20km (12 miles) from the Kent and Essex coasts in the outer Thames Estuary. The site is one of three areas within the estuary that the Government earmarked for offshore wind farm development.

Located 20km off the north Kent coast in the Outer Thames Estuary, London Array has an installed capacity of 630 megawatts and generates enough clean electricity to power around 584,000 UK homes, while displacing around 900,000 tonnes of CO 2 a year.

The London Array project was born in 2001, when a series of environmental studies in the outer Thames Estuary confirmed the area as a suitable wind farm site. Two years later, the Crown Estate gave London Array Ltd a 50-year lease for the site and cable route to shore.
