The agency said Trooper Cody Durham was on a routine patrol near Spring Creek Parkway on Jan. 9 at about 2:20 a.m. when he saw smoke emitting from a single-vehicle crash. As Durham approached it, he could see the driver trapped inside the blazing vehicle, according to a Friday news release.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is sharing the life-saving efforts made by one of their troopers. On January 9, at around 2:20 a.m. Trooper Cody Durham pulled a driver from a burning vehicle on the Dallas Tollway near Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Cody Durham acted quickly to rescue a driver who was trapped inside a burning vehicle after a serious collision on the Dallas Tollway near Spring Creek Parkway on Jan. 9, according to a media release.

In a bodycam video released by DPS, you can see Trooper Durham immediately opening the back passenger door, entering the smoke-filled vehicle and beginning to pull the driver out until he was able to remove him from the vehicle and pull him safely away from the fire.

I believed once I started pulling, that was going to be the only way to get him out,” Trooper Cody Durham said. “I just kept pulling and pulling until we were out of the car.”
