A SpaceX launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base caught the attention of many as it was seen across Southern California Friday morning.

SpaceX launched 23 more of its Starlink internet satellites from California's central coast today in the company's 11th Falcon 9 rocket flight of 2025 (Jan. 24).

People were buzzing Friday morning about a mysterious light across the early morning California sky. It turned out not to be a mystery at all but a SpaceX rocket launch from Vanderberg Space Force base near Santa Barbara.

At the crack of dawn Friday, Shell Beach resident Erik Olson stood on his balcony to catch a glimpse of a scheduled rocket launch from the Vandenberg Space Force Base as it painted the sky above San Luis Obispo County. Olson follows all the rocket activity from Vandenberg, but said this morning’s launch was “particularly impressive.”
