CATAWBA ISLAND – The Lake Erie ice heave was remarkable enough in 1910 to inspire this class of students to have their photo taken in front of it. This photo is from the Catawba Island Historical Society, found by trustee Craig Koerpel.

The U.S. Coast Guard was among several agencies that rescued four people from an ice floe in Lake Erie. Air Station Detroit and Station Marblehead both received a report from the Catawba Island State Park Police at 4:34 p.m. on Tuesday and launched rescue crews.
