OK, so, James Gunn wouldn’t fully reveal the costume that his Batman will eventually wear in the live-action DCU. However, he did confirm a number of specific details that at least cleared up the status of this Batman. Namely, that he already exists when the DCU starts, and has been active for a while. As Gunn went on to explain:

Max has picked up a second season of Creature Commandos, the adult animated series from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.

Creature Commandos not only gives James Gunn’s DCU its official beginning but has also enlightened fans with Batman’s debut. The actor playing this new version of the Caped Crusader has yet to be cast.

Over on X (formerly known as Twitter), Gunn, who runs DC Studios with Peter Safran, responded to a fan who was wondering why Creature Commandos episodes aren’t released all at once given that “streaming has made this practice common and more enjoyable for the viewer” with the following statement:

James Gunn, in a recent chat, revealed that when he saw the first episode of Creature Commandos, he was not ready to commit to the suit design of Batman in the show. Fans think the director is dropping hints about the next Batman film in DCU.
