A representative for reality TV star Chase Chrisley has denied an allegation that his client assaulted the manager of a popular Atlanta sports bar last week after refusing to leave.

The 28-year-old media personality was taken into custody after being accused of assaulting a bar manager and, now, his representative is speaking out and arguing his innocence. The incident involving Chase Chrisley reportedly took place at Twin Peaks restaurant in Atlanta on January 6.

Chase Chrisley was charged on Jan. 9 with simple assault on a manager at an Atlanta bar. In a statement shared with PEOPLE, his attorneys said that "this incident has been entirely blown out of proportion.

A representative for reality TV celebrity Chase Chrisley said an incident at a Buckhead sports bar that ended with the star’s arrest has been “blown out of proportion.”

Chase Chrisley had done the right thing that evening by calling a driver to take him home,” his representative said.

Per a police report obtained by PEOPLE, Chase Chrisley was "really drunk" and allegedly "slapped" the victim twice before leaving the scene.

Chase Chrisley, who appeared on reality TV series Chrisley Knows Best, was arrested after getting into a fight with the manager of an Atlanta restaurant, according to local news outlet WSB-TV. The incident occurred on Jan. 6, after Chrisley allegedly became "really drunk" and "belligerent" at a restaurant in the Buckhead area of the city.

Chase is the son of Todd and Julie Chrisley, who are both serving lengthy prison sentences for bank and tax fraud. He appeared in several seasons of the USA Network reality show Chrisley Knows Best alongside his parents and siblings, Savannah Chrisley and Grayson Chrisley, and the spinoff Growing Up Chrisley.
