After some intense speculation, Kliff Kingsbury has decided to snub the Saints to officially return to the Commanders.
The Washington Commanders are still trying to process the sudden and disappointing end to the 2024 season. However, two days after the Commanders lost the NFC championship game to the Eagles, they received some terrific news.
Kingsbury came to Washington after spending four seasons as the Cardinals’ head coach, going 28-37-1 in the regular season with zero playoff wins before getting fired after the 2022 season. The Commanders enjoyed a renaissance season under head coach Dan Quinn and Kingsbury this year, going 12-5 and winning their first postseason game since 2005.
Kingsbury played an essential role in helping the development of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, taking the Commanders offense and turning it into one of the best units in the entire NFL. It completely changed the franchise and turned it into an immediate Super Bowl contender in all of their first years with the team.
Kingsbury declined to conduct any interviews while the Commanders remained in the postseason, where they lost on Sunday to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC championship. The Saints are the only NFL team still seeking to hire a head coach and had requested an interview with Kingsbury that he will not take.
