The European Commission has informed Apple that its geo-blocking practices, where services are limited or blocked in certain geographical locations, are potentially breaking the law. These practices have been identified on the App Store, Apple Arcade, Music, iTunes Store, Books, and Podcasts.

The penalty, under the Digital Markets Act, is related to the iPhone maker's App Store Apple is set to face the first-ever fine under the European Union's new digital antitrust rules for Big Tech, representing an escalation of a clash with regulators over the dominance of its hugely profitable App Store.

Apple Inc. was notified by the European Union that its geo-blocking practices are potentially in breach of consumer protection rules, adding to the iPhone maker’s regulatory issues in the bloc.

The European Union has accused Apple of unlawfully discriminating against EU customers after finding the Cupertino company’s geo-blocking measures may be violating the bloc’s consumer protection rules.

The European Commission said on Tuesday that along with national authorities it was calling upon Apple to stop geo-blocking practices on Apple Media Services.
