Maui County firefighters are continuing efforts to contain the Kahikinui brush fire that ignited Sunday morning and quickly spread across dry and steep terrain near Piʻilani Highway.

Firefighters have evacuated at least 105 homes in Hawaii’s Maui County following a fast-moving brush fire fueled by strong winds.

As of 1 p.m. Monday, the fire in Kahikinui, near mile markers 24 and 25 of Piilani Highway, was 85% contained.
