Bird flu has been detected in another commercial flock in western Ohio. The USDA confirmed that 1.4 million egg-laying chickens in Mercer County are affected by the virus. This comes weeks after avian influenza was detected in a large flock in nearby Darke County.

The national spread of the disease has alarmed public health officials, who remain concerned it could spread to humans on a large scale.

Georgia, the top US chicken-producing state, confirmed its second recent case of bird flu in a commercial poultry flock, putting exports of the meat at risk.

Georgia officials announced Wednesday that a second commercial poultry flock in the state had been found with a case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).
