Scottie Scheffler added more details Tuesday to what happened during his Christmas-dinner-gone-awry, saying that he was lucky he didn’t suffer an even more serious hand injury when a wine glass shattered in his palm.

The top-ranked golfer in the world is back this week and ready to make his season debut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He said on Tuesday that he and his wife, Meredith, were simply cooking pasta on Christmas when a wine glass broke directly into his hand as he was trying to roll out the pasta.

Days after Scheffler, 28, and Rory McIlroy topped LIV Golf’s Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in a Las Vegas Showdown, it was revealed the world’s No. 1 golfer “sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass” during Christmas dinner preparations.

Scheffler went into detail Tuesday about how he injured his hand making Christmas dinner, and how he practiced hard early last week in cold weather in Dallas to feel confident he wasn’t returning to the PGA Tour too soon.
