In its historic 100th mission on Wednesday, ISRO successfully launched an advanced navigation satellite that would aid in terrestrial, aerial and maritime navigation and precision agriculture, among others.

This marked the space agency’s first mission of the year and the inaugural mission under ISRO’s new chairman, V Narayanan, who assumed office recently.

The GSLV-F15 with indigenous Cryogenic stage will place NVS-02 satellite into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit, Isro said in a statement. ISRO launched GSLV-F15/NVS-02 mission on January 29 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra’s Sriharikota. GSLV-F15 is the 17th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle and 11th flight with Indigenous Cryo stage.

This launch updated the satellite constellation of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), with a total of 7 satellites which will be up in space. With the 100th launch, India will have 5 out of the 7 in space.
