Seven dangerous locations across San Diego will soon get new safety features including flashing beacons, countdown timers, pedestrian-friendly delayed-green stoplights and crosswalks that aim to boost visibility.

San Diego officials announced plans on Monday to make traffic safety improvements in on seven areas in the coming months, as advocates continue to push for changes to some of the city's most dangerous intersections.

The city of San Diego Monday pinpointed seven dangerous intersections and street sections for safety improvements as part of its annual High Crash Locations list.

San Diego identifies seven high-crash locations for immediate safety upgrades, including new signals and crosswalks, after Vision Zero falls short of goals.

City staff reviewed data from 2023 and found and evaluated seven locations where five or more crashes had occurred. The analysis also looked at intersections and street segments with the most injury crashes and crashes involving pedestrians.

Authorities have publicly identified six people killed in traffic crashes throughout the county over the first few days of 2025, four of them on New Year’s Day.
