The average money market account (MMA) rate has remained fairly steady over the past week and sits at 0.60%. But if you shop around, you could get a much higher rate of around 5%.

Money market funds are hesitant to buy longer-term Treasury bills even though the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a half percentage point last week.
