A 36-year-old Los Angeles County man has been arrested after reportedly throwing a rock at a beloved Great Egret in San Bernardino, leaving the bird, which ultimately died, badly wounded. The unsettling act of alleged animal cruelty unfolded on Oct.

After other visitors yelled at them to leave the birds alone, one of the men threw a rock at an egret, a wading bird, closely related to a heron. The man missed but hit the bird with a second rock, Kaylyn Donica, a witness, told the station. The bird fell over in the water.
