Benchmark Sensex closed above the 85,000 level for the first time while Nifty settled at a fresh lifetime high on Wednesday (September 25, 2024) as fag-end buying in banking and power shares helped stock markets recoup early losses.

Indian shares reached record highs as US Federal Reserve cut interest rates. NSE Nifty 50 and Sensex rose by 1.1%, with the Sensex surpassing 84,000 mark.

The two key equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, on Wednesday rebounded sharply and pared their early morning losses. The two indices scaled their new highs before closing Wednesday’s trading session.

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed with gains of 255.83 points or 0.30 per cent at 85,169.87. The index hit a new all-time high of 85,247.42.
