The unearthing of the tomb of ancient Egyptian King Thutmose II is being described as one of the most important archaeological discoveries in recent years.

There’s a new king in town. More than a century after King Tutunkhamun was discovered — elevating the ancient figure to celebrity status — archeologists have uncovered the tomb of King Thutmose II, Egyptian officials declared on Tuesday.

Archaeologists have announced the discovery of the first royal tomb in Egypt since Tutankhamun's burial was uncovered in 1922.
