The new Porsche 911 Carrera S is here (from AUD$342,700 plus on-road costs), and it’s arrived with more standard equipment and GTS-rivalling power from its non-hybrid 3.0-litre turbocharged boxer engine

Though, it takes its look from a full-blooded supercar, Porsche opting to design the new Carrera S like the old Turbo. Bigger brakes, too, pinched from this generation’s Carrera GTS, which means 408mm/380mm discs front and back, and red calipers all round.

The newest Carrera S goes auto-only while its performance equipment expands.

The new 992.2-gen Carrera S also has more standard features, but the coupe's base price has risen over $15K to $148,395.

Slotting into its expected role in the hierarchy between the base Carrera and the now-hybrid GTS, the S sees a big increase in output from its 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six, with the wick now dialed up up to 473 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.

As is inevitable with the launch of any new generation of Porsche, the 992.2-gen Porsche 911 first unveiled last year continues to roll out variants — and as of Wednesday, it’s time to see the 911 Carrera S Coupe and Cabriolet.
