A rock slide early Wednesday morning forced the closure of US 550, Red Mountain Pass, two miles south of Ouray. The route from Silverton and Ouray was closed for eight hours. Crews began to clean up the debris at first light on Wednesday.

U.S. 550 Red Mountain Pass is closed between Silverton and Ouray due to a rockfall, the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a press release. The rockfall happened around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
