An electrified Mazda MX-5 Miata is, as we say here at MotorTrend, InEVitable. Even though Mazda hasn’t kept its intentions to juice up its signature sports car with electrons a secret, the thought of one of the market’s last remaining driver-focused roadsters losing its gas-only purity is a bittersweet thought.

There isn’t a car on the market that’s received the special-edition treatment more than the Mazda MX-5 Miata. Thirty-five years of SEs and LEs and special paint and trim. Decades ago, you could set your watch to the unveil of a special-edition Miata at the Chicago Auto Show.

Mazda has unveiled the 2025 MX-5 Miata 35th Anniversary Edition, celebrating 35 years of its popular lightweight car. Debuting at the iconic IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener in Daytona, the special edition is a tribute to the MX-5 Miata’s legacy and limited to just 300 units for the U.S. market.

Mazda brought out some of the best examples of the car from its collection and had a whole corral full of fans on hand with their own cars. Mazda has priced the 2025 MX-5 Miata 35th Anniversary car from $36,250. In our minds, that's a bargain at $1,320 more than the Grand Touring with a tan interior for a car that might be impossible to find.

Mazda’s MX-5 Miata turns 35 this year.Unveiled in Daytona on the eve of the 2025 Rolex 24, the company is celebrating the Miata's birthday with a special-edition model exclusive to the U.S.market.

The 35th Anniversary Edition is similar to the Grand Touring trim, which means features like heated seats, and Mazda says it has added a limited-slip differential, additional bracing, and some newly tuned Bilstein dampers. There's also a beige convertible roof and some shiny 17-inch alloy wheels.
