Met Eireann issued a series of Red Weather Warnings for all of Ireland that came into effect at various times through Friday morning. Red Weather Warnings are extremely dangerous and destructive and pose a danger to life. Met Éireann, the Republic of Ireland's national meteorological service, said that the country had faced wind gusts of 114mph in County Galway– the highest recorded wind speeds ever recorded on the island.

Storm Eowyn has broken Ireland's wind speed record, with Met Eireann recording an average wind speed of nearly 135km/h recorded at Mace Head in County Galway early this morning. H
