Wondering why Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain is suddenly off the court? The fan-favorite guard is out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus, an injury he suffered last month.

The Sixers say McCain is "progressing well," but after meeting with his surgeon on Thursday, it was decided to sit the rookie out indefinitely.

The 16th overall pick in last summer’s draft, McCain had been a bright spot during the Sixers’ rough start to the season (15-20, 11th in the Eastern Conference). He earned Rookie of the Month honors in November and was an early frontrunner for Rookie of the Year.

McCain suffered the torn meniscus in his left knee on Dec. 13 during a 121-107 loss to the Indiana Pacers. He underwent surgery to repair the tear and his return was indefinite. Repairing the meniscus was better for McCain's long-term prognosis with the injury. However, it also meant there would be a longer recovery.
