Jill Underly and Brittany Kinser will advance to the April 1 general election in the race for Wisconsin state superintendent.

It's a race that’s officially nonpartisan, but Democrats are backing incumbent Jill Underly and Republicans support her challenger, Brittany Kinser.

Jill Underly and Brittany Kinser are moving on after Jeff Wright was eliminated. Underly is serving her first term as head of the Department of Public Instruction and was elected in 2021 with the support of democrats and teachers’ unions. Kinser, an education consultant and advocate for the state’s school choice program, is backed by republicans.

On Tuesday, Wisconsin voters went to the polls for the spring primary, which sets the stage for the general election on April 1.

Incumbent Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Jill Underly and challenger Brittany Kinser will advance to the April 1 election after the pair defeated Jeff Wright on Tuesday night in the spring primary.

Incumbent Jill Underly and challenger Brittany Kinser will advance to the April 1 race, securing 37% and 35% of votes statewide in the spring primary, respectively. Jeff Wright won 27% of votes. Underly is backed by the Democratic Party and Kinser has been supported by conservatives.
