Satellite images showed the dramatic difference in the Altadena area in just a matter of days due to the deadly Eaton Fire.

Satellite imagery shows houses burned down, roads closed, and the fires spreading across Los Angeles.

The Eaton Fire destroyed homes in Altadena Calif., a town northeast of Pasadena. The image was captured Jan. 8 by Maxar Technologies' shortwave infrared sensor. This sensor has the ability to see through the dense smoke of an active fire to the ground beneath, as well as locating the flame front and hot spots in the fire, according to Maxar.

Entire swathes of the city are too dangerous to access and the thickness of smoke makes it hard to see far. But from space the enormity of the destruction is made clear. Satellite imagery company Maxar Technologies has shared pictures taken from space that show just how bad the wildfires have been.
